ABBEYDORNEY COMMUNITY GAMES
This weekend saw the beginning of our participation in community games for 2013 and what a great start it was, auguring well for the rest of the year. On Saturday night, in Abbeydorney community hall, we had the finals of the solo and group music. There was great music and fabulous entertainment during both competitions. We were represented in the solo music by Keith O' Connor on the accordeon. His performance on the night was outstanding and this was duly recognised by the judges who proclaimed him the winner amidst great jubilation from his family and friends. Keith will now represent the county at the national finals in Athlone at the end of May. This is the first time that the area has won a gold medal in any of the cultural events in community games and therefore we are justifiably proud of Keith's great achievement. Congratulations! Table Tennis: On Sunday, Keith had to don a completely different hat as he took to the floor in Balloonagh Primary School, along with his team mates Dean O'Brien, Darragh O'Donoghue and Robbie Sheehan to compete in the county finals of the table tennis. There were 6 teams in the competition and once again we didn't leave empty handed when after some great battles with Rock St./Caherslee, Oakpark and Knocknagoshel, the boys ended up with certs in 4th place. They showed great potential in all their games and were probably unlucky not to win bronze medals. However, more importantly, they all enjoyed participating. They had to play without Adam Maunsell who was ill and he was sorely missed. U14 Quiz: On this Fri. Feb. 1st, we will be holding our u-14 quiz to pick 6 children to represent the area at the county finals. The quiz will go ahead in the Abbeydorney hall meeting room at 7.30pm. A special word of thanks to Mary Brassil and Bernie Shanahan, who are once again willing to organise this event and train the children for the county finals. Please contact Patsy O'Connell (0879864656).
