IF ever you needed proof that community spirit is alive an well in north Kerry, then take a leaf from the book of the good folk in Abbeydorney who raised over €14,000 for charity in just two days!
The October bank holiday weekend saw the community rally together for the Ronald McDonald House at Our Lady's Hospital in Crumlin - and the result was a staggering €14,433 for the charity which provides accommodation for up to 20 families of seriously ill children.
The cheque was recently presented to the charity's CEO, Marian Carroll, by Abbeydorney woman Noelle Jameson, who organised the fundraising weekend after seeing at first hand the comfort and support the charity provides to families.
In a massive show of community spirit, locals got together to support a range of activities over two days, including a cake sale, a children's Halloween disco, an adults fancy dress party and a charity leg and chest wax that generated thousands of euro. Day two featured a charity walk from Abbeydorney to Kilflynn and an auction.
Noelle said she was indebted to every single person who showed the support for such an important cause.
