A MASSIVE fundraising campaign over the past three years has seen the Kerry Cancer Support Group invest in a brand new 25 seater bus which will transport cancer patients to appointments at Cork University Hospital on a daily basis.

Thanks to the generosity of the people and businesses of Kerry, the group recently took possession of its brand new Mercedes Turas, which cost the charity over €158,000.

This new vehicle will ensure trouble free motoring and comfort for our service users for many years to come.

The new vehicle, which was officially launched on Tuesday, replaces the bus which the charity had used for the past three years.

During that time, the group's fundraising co-ordinator Mary Lynch set a target for the group to pay off the loan on the existing bus and buy a new one, and this week that goal was reached.

The purchase of the bus, she says, was made possible thanks to Kerry Cancer Support Group's many supporters, board of directors and committee.

The Kerry Cork Health Link Bus provides transport for cancer patients from all over Kerry and parts of Cork who need to attend Cork University Hospital for potentially life saving radiotherapy treatment.

To date it has helped patients attend over 1990 appointments. This achievement is all the more impressive given that Kerry Cancer Support Group is not in receipt of any government, HSE or Irish Cancer Society funding and relies totally on voluntary contributions and fundraising.
