Tasty double for Tralee centre

The first annual National Learning Network Catering Competition was held in the IT Tralee recently where students from the National Learning Network Centres in Cork, Limerick and Kerry took part.

Competitions took place on the day were Pool Catering Sponsored Bakery Challenge Trophy, and Dawn Dairies Sponsored Open Challenge Cup and representatives of the Tralee centre were successful in both.

The Dawn Dairies Cup was won by Seamus Doyle from Kenmare and Tralee NLN with a Free Range Irish Breast of Chicken stuffed with feta cheese and served on a pesto cream sauce while the Pool Catering Bakery Challenge Trophy was won by Irina Pakina from Tralee NLN who showed an extraordinary presentation which resembled a Pineapple inlaid with hand piped chocolate decorations which was commended by the judges on the quality of the work to an International Standard.

The competitions were judged by John Murray (ITT) and International Judges Susanne Brummer and Hans Jurgen Bellhausen from Hotel Bad Schachen in Bavaria. Prizes were presented by Cllr Jim Finucane Chairman of Kerry Education Services.
