ALMOST forty students were honoured by Killarney Community College on May 15 at the school's annual End-of-Year Awards.
Congratulated by their Principal, Ms. Fiona O'Brien, and Deputy Principal, Ms. Stella Loughnane, as well as the guest speakers Frank Murphy, Founder and CEO of Monex, and Denise Mullane from the Bank of Ireland, the teenagers were recognised for their success in academia, sports and the arts.
Award winners included John Prendergast and Gavin O'Sullivan for the Bank of Ireland Spirit of the School; Marek Dzurko for Design and Technology; Robert Fell for Student of the Year; Derina Kelliher for the Principal's Award; and the cast of All Shook Up for their Contribution to the Life of the School. KCC alumnus Esidor Pashaj, now a student of Trinity College Dublin, returned to the school to receive his award for Best Leaving Certificate 2012.
Daria Sitnik, who won the Senior Art Award and the Best Junior Certificate Award 2012, said she was "really happy" to have done so well because she really "put in a lot of work." The talented teenager has already launched her artistic career, selling her own paintings and sketches and teaching art courses. She hopes to study Computer Graphics at college.
