A NATIONAL positive mental health campaign has been launched at Institute of Technology, Tralee, with the aim of promoting support services to students and young people.
The Union of Students in Ireland (USI) has partnered with HeadsUp.ie, ReachOut.com, and PleaseTalk.org to launch Mental Health Awareness Week 2012. The theme is positive mental health and the promotion of support services available to students and young people. The tagline of the campaign is ' What Makes You Smile?'
This national campaign was launched in IT Tralee, as well as in the National College of Ireland (NCI) and St Angela's College, Sligo, on Monday last and will be run in colleges across the country.
Thousands of packs will be sent to colleges, incorporating the 'What Makes You Smile?' theme. The pack includes a postcard, a HeadsUp pen, and ReachOut.com/PleaseTalk.org bookmark.
"This is about helping our members identify the small things that can make their college days easier. We're also encouraging students, experiencing difficulties with their mental health, to avail of college supports," said Denise McCarthy, USI Vice President for Welfare. "We are delighted to partner with mental health organisations that will help spread the message."
