Derek, Micheal, Ruth O’Driscoll, Mike O’Halloran and J P Corridon from Ballyheigue at the announcement of details of the forthcoming Ballyheigue Ploughing competition on Sunday, January 19.

IN a change from the traditional ploughing calendar, the Ballyheigue Ploughing Association will get this year's season under way, hosting the first match of the year in place of Abbeydorney.

The Ballyheigue meeting takes place this Sunday, January 19, on the lads of Michael and Dereck O'Driscoll in Castleshannon

Sunday's competition, which gets under way at 12 noon, will feature all the usual classes, including senior tractor, U21, U28, novice, reversible, three furrow, horse class, ladies and vintage class.

Once again those interested in competing are asked to register their names with Ballyheigue Ploughing Association Secretary, John P Corridon (087 3560407) by this Thursday.

"Because Abbeydorney has chosen to go a week later, we're the first match of the season, so it's important that people are aware of that and register with us before the event," JP said. "Our judges and stewards will be travelling from Cork for the occasion, so now we're just hoping that the weather will be good to us."
