MOST people after a 59km adventure race would be looking forward to putting their feet up and recovering, but one Corkman had different ideas.
When Marie Kearney waved off her partner Ciaran Ahern on Saturday at the beginning of the Helly Hansen Killarney Adventure Race, little did she know that just over five hours later she would be an engaged woman.
A large crowd was gathered at the finish line of the race at The Gleneagle Hotel and in that crowd stood Marie waiting for Ciaran, her partner of 11 years, to cross the bridge.
Marie got a huge surprise however when a tired and sweaty Ciaran dropped to one knee at the finish and said those magical words.
"I had been in contact with the race organisers beforehand and they helped set it up," said Ciaran. "She's been a long time waiting for this and I guess you could say it's been a good while in the planning."
Ciaran, a fabricator, and Marie, who works for a recruitment company, live in Blarney, and Ciaran said he chose this occasion for a reason.
"I did the race last year and you really can't beat the scenery in Killarney when you're pushing through the race," he said.
The bodies are still recovering after Saturday's events and, before you ask, she said yes. Of course.
