A 19-YEAR-OLD dentistry student is the proud holder of the first ever Miss West Limerick title, after being selected at the inaugural competition in conjunction with WL 102FM.
UCC student Nadine Smith from Abbeyfeale says she is absolutely delighted with the win.
"I'm very proud of myself, and I'll see what happens next. It's a great stepping stone and I might try for Miss Limerick next year" said Nadine who can look forward to attending local events and representing Abbeyfeale and West Limerick over the coming year.
Daughter of Mary Bridget Bowden-Smith, she entered because she wanted greater involvement within her community. Nadine is on the Gathering Committee for Abbeyfeale and will use her newly crowned position to aid their Gathering Festival.
After Nadine sent in her entry form, she was called for an interview in front of the judges. When Nadine took to the stage, against 13 other contestants on the night, she sang a beautiful rendition of Christy Moore's 'Black is the Colour', all of which came naturally to Nadine who is no stranger to singing in front of an audience. She sings in the Abbeyfeale folk choir, and is an actress with the Glorach theatre.
Nadine loves every aspect of being Miss West Limerick.
"I'd to have headshots and pictures taken by a photographer, which was a new experience for me and I am really enjoying myself and all the activities that come with being Miss West Limerick".
Nadine thanked all those who helped her on the way to winning the title. "I couldn't have done it without my sponsor, Mark McCoy's, Bar and Tangles Hair and Beauty who did my hair and make-up on the night," she said.
