From Killarney town, Michaela received her award for the tremendous work and care that she gives her grandmother. She stays with her grandmother on week nights and ensures that she is taken care of.

"It is a fantastic personal achievement for Michaela and one that she should be very proud of as she fully deserves the honour," Ms McCarthy said afterwards.

A Leaving Cert student, Michaela was one of 27 teenagers who received awards at a special ceremony in the Ballyroe Heights Hotel, Tralee. The awards honour teenagers who help others in their community.
