TRANSITION year students end up in all kinds of places doing the work experience part of their school programme, but one young Tralee man's 'outside the box' thinking brought him to a rather remarkable week at the very heart of Ireland's political system.
Tralee CBS The Green Transition Year student Jason Dyland swapped his school uniform for a suit and tie last week as he joined the staff and politicans working in Fianna Fail's party headquarters in Dublin.
Jason's stint at FF Party HQ was organised by Castlegregory native Seán Dorgan who is the party's General Secretary.
As well as helping out with day-to-day work like organising nomination sheets and typing out attendance records, Jason also got a chance to meet party leader Micheal Martin in his offices, enjoy a full behind the scenes tour of the Dáil and sit in on leaders questions.
"When I went looking for work experience for our TY programme I decided to look outside the box and challenge myself. We're always hearing people giving out about how the country is run and about politicians in general so I decided to try to find out more," said Jason.
"I went hoping to get an insight into how the background team works to help run the country. I have to say it was one of the best weeks I have ever had," he said.
"I did find it very exciting and hope to maybe return one day," said Jason.
