AN aspiring fashionista who became the 2013 Young Entrepreneur of the Year last Thursday is hoping to visit Kerry's designer to the stars, Don O'Neill, when she embarks on a trip to New York in June as part of her amazing prize.
Fifteen year old Kaithlin Corcoran, a fourth year student of Presentation Secondary School in Tralee, says is is totally overwhelmed and shocked at claiming the title for her fashion blog 'High Street Couture' - which she explained helps people find high street alternatives to designer labels.
"It's just a way of helping people to find affordable alternatives to some of the bigger labels,"Kaithlin explained. "It's pretty much how the industry works - where the big fashion houses produce something and two weeks later a copy could appear in Top Shop."
Inspired by the late designer Alexander McQueen, the fashion lover from Castlegregory has already received over 40,000 hits on her blog and is now preparing for a trip of a lifetime to the Big Apple.
While yet unsure as to the exact itinerary, she is hoping to get time to visit Don O'Neill's THEIA studio, as she is a massive fan. She is also looking forward to taking in the sights, along with her mum - and fashion inspiration, Katherine - and two teachers.
"I know everyone says they weren't expecting to win, but I genuinely wasn't," Kaithlin told The Kerryman. "Even on the night, they pronounced my name as 'Kathleen' so it took me a few minutes to even realise it was me. It is absolutely amazing and I'm totally overwhelmed."
Friday's classes took somewhat of a back seat as Kaithlin and her classmates enjoyed a pizza party and cake to mark her amazing achievement."
Despite her obvious interest in all things couture, Kaithlin admits that she is focussing on a career in medicine, but says she could always continue with her fashion blog 'on the side.'
