BUSINESSES backing the Killarney Races were praised by the race company this week for their support following the biggest ever attendance on the course during the recent festival.

The Killarney Races recorded its biggest crowd ever on the course for Ladies Day during the recent meeting which ran from July 14 until 17 and race company bosses are thanking all who helped make the meeting such as success.

"We were delighted with the crowds, atmosphere and great racing last Week," Killarney Racecourse general manager Micheál Lucey said.

"It's great to be bucking the national trend and we hope that this continues on to our August Festival. "We believe the increase in numbers visiting Killarney Racecourse reflects our large investment in facilities and improved racing," he added.

Mr Lucey said the company would simply not be in a position to run such successful meetings but for the sponsorship.

"We are extremely grateful to all our sponsors and all the local businesses in and around Killarney that support the racing festivals. Quite simply, racing couldn't happen without them."

Racing will take place once again on the course from Wednesday, August 20, until Saturday, August 23 (Ladies Day) and is, again, fully sponsored.
