SOUTH Kerry garage owners Alan and Ger Egan have honoured their deceased's grandfather's exploits on the GAA field by sponsoring the local club he once played for.
A star of the Renard side of the late '40s and early '50s, John Egan won a medal on the team that collected the club's first ever South Kerry Championship in 1948. He repeated the feat in 1951 and 1953 and remained a life-long member of the south Kerry club.
Grandsons Alan and Ger Egan recalled their grandfather's exploits as they presented the club with their new jackets, officially sponsored by Egan's Garage and Crash Repairs in Aghatubrid.
Alan (27) has been a member of the Renard club since he was a child and now plays for the senior team. He says he is hugely proud that the garage is now in a position to sponsor the club that formed such an integral part of his family's life. "The memory of our grandfather will always be close to everyone that plays at Renard GAA and their recent achievements on the field, particularly at underage level, are a fitting tribute to a South Kerry sportsman who served the game and his community so well," Alan said.
