Dropout rate is low in IT

IT TRALEE has one of the lowest student dropout rates in the country, according to a new report issued by the Higher Education Authority.
The HEA report, which profiles all of Ireland's universities and ITs, shows that 12 per cent of undergraduate students seeking honours degrees at IT Tralee drop out of college before entering second year. Only Letterkenny and Sligo ITs recorded lower dropout rates among first year students. Of IT Tralee's 2,711 students, 66 per cent come from Kerry, and 23 per cent come from either Limerick or Cork. In all, 12 per cent of the students taking courses at IT Tralee are studying part time.
The Tralee college currently has 319 academic staff aided by 118 support staff and has an annual income of €36.17 million. Of the college's academic staff 95 per cent have a master's degree or higher.
