Cat's eyes light up for the autumn

AS September approaches, I can't wait for the new season's make-up trends - they are easy to do and really make eyes stand out. The big trend is 'cats eyes' and with a bit of help we will all be like the cat who got the cream.
Celebs have already been snapped wearing the trend - Angelina Jolie, Lauren Conrad, Taylor Swift, Dita Von Tess and Bollywood star Priyanku Chopra to name but a few. The look involves a steady hand, practice and a good eyeliner and the trend is said to stay all season, so my advice is to invest in a good eyeliner or gel. Price friendly ones that are good are L'oreal Paris superliner, which has a felt tip that is ideal for a strong cat's eye look and also they have the black buster- again easy to use. L'oreal also have a gel eyeliner that lasts for ages, just don 't forget to wash the brush after use. Mabelline New York also have eye studio gel liner that is long lasting.
If you have deep set eyes, apply false lashes as it amplifies your eyes. I love this look - it is elegant and seductive all in one and with practice you will look 'purrfect'. The smokey look is still around but is more smudged and the middle colour is now coming up higher to brow bone. Colours for eyes are bold greens, deep browns, bright blues and a deep purple, which is my favourite. Orangey eyeshadow is also big - sounds awful but works with blue eyes. Glitter is also in - on brows and lids. Lips are berry colours, raisin and wine tones and of course a very rich red.
Clarins' new season range is just hitting the shops. New is their foundation, which is called extra comfort and has a SPF of 15. It is ideal for dry skin, replenishes, illuminates and nourishes and does feel great on the skin. It contains aragan oil, omega -9 and omega 6, so it is very nourishing but I think a BB or CC is needed underneath. A little goes a long way and at €43 you will get value for money. Also new to the range is their instant concealer which comes in four shades for tired or stressed eyes or both if you are like me. It also has a caffeine extract which works to diminish signs of fatigue and puffiness under the eyes. The new eye quartet is bang on trend with a great deep brown, a grape and strong green and highlighter and has a step by step guide to achieve the look, but my favourite in the range is the face and body blush. Clarins, I commend you, this is perfect for Irish tones. Twirl your blusher brush around and keep the pink tones to your upper cheekbones for extra definition.
I read about Pevonia Lumafirm lift and glow facial and, let's face it, who doesn't want a little lift and glow. I could not source it locally, I knew it had won many awards, and then news came through that it was coming to the Cloisters Spa in Killarney. I went to the launch party ( great night) and was so impressed with the Pevonia team, who were all about constant education for their therapists and constant re training, which is always a good sign. But the proof is in the the pudding and what a treat. This is a must for anyone who needs a bit of a lightening effect after the summer. The results are instant and my skin was brighter and firmer and it did glow - ideal for this time of year. It is formulated with the latest in freeze dried technology and is for any skin showing signs of aging, or works as a instant repair boost. It takes about 1 hr and costs €120. Call Cloisters at 064-6623444 to lift and glow.
Have you one hour to spare? If so would you like to test a treatment at the herbs and roses spa in the Carlton Tralee. This is a Ytsara treatment called Maphrao, consisting of a warm coconut soother following the Zen philosophy of returning to nature. Tropical wonders infuse this treatment with life, energy and beauty. Drift into southern Thailand delights when warm extra coconut oil is drizzled onto your body and a warm sesame and coconut poultice is gently glided to massage, nourish, soothe and condition your skin. Exhilarating sweet scents permeate your mind and nurture your soul.
Write to me at The Kerryman, 9/10 Denny St., Tralee or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and join in Mary O Donnell Beauty on facebook where every Thursday night from 9-10pm there is a live Q&A on beauty topic. I will be on Radio Kerry next Tuesday at 2pm with Deirdre Walsh on Talkabout where we will be discussing a new range from Sheisido and other beauty topics.
Next week, what's new from Lancome in autumn.
