ARCHIVES - APRIL/MAY 1982 FEALE Valley, the manufacturers of fitted kitchens and bathroom furnishings in Listowel, are closing down making eight people redundant.
Meanwhile, workers at the factory have been picketing since mid-april in an unofficial dispute about severance terms.
Mr. Kevin O'connor, ITG&WU branch assistant, told The Kerryman that they were due to meet management to discuss the question of redundancy money. And he added: "We have not served a wage claim on the company."
He said he expected that they would reach an agreement at this meeting.
Staff have been on a three-day week since February and Mr O'connor said that they are closing following a decline in business due to the very competitive nature of this type of business.
Mr. Niall Stack, of Feale Valley, refused to comment on the closure of the factory or on the dispute.
Mr O'connor stressed the dispute was not about loss of employment, as the closure could not be helped, but he added the chance of the staff getting work in Listowel was "virtually nil".
