WHILE Four Men and a Dog may be one of the headline acts at this year's Munster Fleadh Cheoil, watch out for an exciting local performance ahead of the big gig which is sure to prove that the future of the Sliabh Luachra musical tradition is a healthy one.
Supporting Four Men & A Dog at the big event in the INEC on Friday is TG4 Young Musician of the Year Bryan O'Leary, who has put together a group for the occasion to showcase the rich tradition of Sliabh Luachra music in a contemporary style.
Joining Bryan on stage will be Colm Guilfoyle, Ciaran O'Sullivan, Mikey O'Gorman, and Mike O'Connor, all accomplished musicians in their own right.
Bryan is a grandson of the renowned accordion player Johnny O'Leary and he plays a style of music that he picked up from his late grandfather and the many Sliabh Luachra masters who visited Johnny.
The young musicians will play a tribute to the legends of Sliabh Luachra music who have gone before them, including musicians like Paddy Cronin and Paudie Gleeson, who died earlier this year, Paddy O'Keeffe, Denis Murphy and Julia Clifford, as well as Jimmy Doyle who continues to entertain.
