World War I exhibition on show in Dingle library

A SPECIAL World War I exhibition is to be held in Dingle library from this Friday, July 18, to August 1.
Meanwhile, Dingle Historical Society will to host a series of lectures from August 24 - 26 to mark the centenary of World War I with Kevin Myers, Thomas F. Martin and Diarmaid Ferriter each giving a talk.
To coincide with the lectures, the library will have an exhibition of material including Irish recruiting posters and a 24-foot drawing of the battle of the Somme, with notes.
Materials of local interest such as a list of those from West Kerry who died in the line of duty during World War 1, West Kerry Anzacs and the list of 127 West Kerry men who joined the Royal Navy between 1853 and 1923 will also be on display.
There will also be a report on the sinking of the Carmanian in 1916 and the rescue involving Fr Tom Jones, curate of Ballyferriter and local men. Plus, there will be a selection of reading material on World War 1, in fiction and non-fiction.
