LONG established Kenmare barber and former Kenmare Shamrocks footballer Pete Hanley has seen many distinguished people pass through his door down through the years, among them Shane Long from Tipperary who is an Irish soccer international and Hull City Premiership soccer player.
Shane felt the need to have his locks trimmed during a recent visit to Kenmare and dropped in to Pete, who duly obliged, as the picture shows.
Of course the Kenmare barber, who was also a Kerry football panellist for a period, is well used to taking a scissors to the rich and famous.
He once had the distinction of coming as close as it is humanly possible to a renowned world statesman.
The year was 1969, a year in which President De Gaulle of France visited Ireland, taking in the breathtaking beauty of the Kenmare and Sneem areas.
De Gaulle was in need of a trim and directed his custom towards Pete who gave him a haircut truly befitting a dignitary of his calibre. However, the Roughty side barber states that the security was quite intense as he went about his work.
Pete Hanley's barber outlet has been a well known landmark in Kenmare for more than half a century and a place where many a sporting event is discussed and analysed with great fervour and intensity.
