Soccer club bids to set penalties record

TANAVALLA is the only place to be in the Listowel area on Saturday as soccer club Celtic attempt to break a world record while celebrating the club's 50th birthday!
Listowel Celtic are out to smash the world record for the most amount of Futsal penalties taken in a row in order to mark the club's first half-century in style.
To do so, however, they need the help of the entire community - Celtic members and non-Celtic members alike!
It's just one part of a massive day at the club's Tanavalla grounds that will include novelty events and fun for all the family, from bouncy castles to face-painting and much more.
"You don't have to be a member to join with us on the day." Celtic's Aiden O'Connor said. "We have to get beyond 931 penalties, which was set in Japan in 2011, and the transition from one taker to the next cannot take longer than 30 seconds so the whole thing will be very tightly controlled!"
Guinness World Record observers will be present for the attempt, which will all hinge on the club's ability to get enough people lining up from the start of the attempt at 1pm. Registration begins at 12pm.
"There's a load of interest mounting in town now as we approach the big day so we're hopeful of a large crowd during the afternoon!" Aiden added.
After all the Tanavalla fun it's off to the Arms for Listowel Celtic's annual social; a far bigger affair in the 2013 half century than ever before with all the makings of a highlight night in the club's annals for a long time to come.
