WORLD-renowned accordion player Sharon Shannon was a surprise visitor to Castleisland on Saturday afternoon, accompanied by Suzanne Gibbons from the AHAR animal rescue centre.
They called into A Slice of Life Café for a bit of lunch before heading back out to the centre.
A strong supporter of animal welfare, Sharon Shannon was filmed there by local cameraman, James Pembroke, for a new television channel which features various events and happenings from around the country.
Customers at O Riada's Bar in Ballymacelligott, which holds regular fund-raising events for the AHAR centre, were treated to the magic of Sharon's music later on that night and she was joined by proprietor John Reidy – himself no slouch on the box.
Animal Heaven Animal Rescue (AHAR) is currently operating a rescue centre for all animals in Doolaig – just outside Castleisland. They mostly handle dogs, cats and horses but regularly have foxes, chickens, pigs, goats, ferrets, etc. residing there. The centre never turns an animal away and they are kept at the centre until a suitable home is found, however long that takes. None of the animals are put to sleep unless their health is very bad and they are suffering.
More information on the centre is available from 086 107 6729.
