Pupils celebrate Scór success

ON Sunday night, April 13, a big bonfire blazed outside O'Connor Park to welcome home from Ballybunion the victorious Scoil Derarca national school pupils who were awarded the overall club of the year at the Kerry Scor Na bPaisti county finals held in the Tinteán Theatre.
The ballad group achieved first place, the instrumental musicians were second and the quiz group were placed fourth out of nine participants. As the bonfire blazed, the Chairman of the Young Islanders GAA Club John O'Sullivan, in association with local teacher Susan Daly, rendered a speech of welcome, thanking all for their efforts.
Everybody adjourned to the nearby Ring Lyne afterwards where the celebrations continued with further music and singing by the victorious children.
The ballad group members are: Abbie Daly, Caoimhe Cournane, Maeve Daly, Ruth O'Shea, Cliodhna Guiney, who were tutored by Mary Gallagher.
Instrumental music group: Abbie Daly, Maeve Daly, Roise Cusack, Cliodhna Guiney and Caoimhe O'Shea, who were tutored by Marion Cournane (who was highly commended for her endeavours in making a number of journeys from London to tutor the pupils) and Ian Guiney.
Quiz group: Abbie Daly, Maeve Daly, Sonny Curran and Joe Lynch, who were tutored by John Daly.Congratulations to all. Comhghairdeas doibh go leir.
