THE MEMORY of Muiris Ó Rocháin is to be honoured at a tribute concert in Ennis on Saturday October 26 in honour of the Dingle man whose life-long efforts have left an indelible mark on the country's traditional Irish music scene.
Muiris, who passed away in October 2011, was one of the founders of the annual Willie Clancy Summer School which has run for over 40 years and brings thousands of visitors from Ireland and all over the world to his adopted home of Milltown Malbay every year. He was President of the Oireachtas in 2001 and was the recipient of the TG4 Gradam na gCeoltoiri in 2010 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to traditional music, Irish culture, folklore and the Irish community at home and abroad
Muiris also served on the Arts Council of Ireland and was awarded a posthumous Doctorate from the University of Limerick in recognition of his lifetime dedication to traditional music.
In honour of Muiris's unique contribution to the traditional arts, Glór has assembled a superb line up of artists for this tribute concert, including the Kilfenora & Tulla Céilí Bands, Noel Hill, Peter O'Loughlin, Méabh Donnelly, Geraldine Cotter, Mick Kinsella, Josephine Marsh, Chris Droney and more.
