'Lucky to work in our home place'
Couple to open golf links restaurant
WITH all the fine weather we have been experiencing lately it would appear that West Kerry has come to life with people getting ready for what will hopefully be a busy tourist season.
Among them are Ballyferriter couple Pat O'Flaherty and his wife Noreen (nee O'Rourke), who are opening a new eatery - the Ceann Sibeál Restaurant & Bar - at the Dingle Golf Links. It is a welcome development for the local community and for the many golfers who travel to Ceann Sibeál.
The local couple - who at one point considered emigrating to New Zealand - are delighted to have the opportunity to set up a new business in their home place
Pat, who is a native of Baile an Mhuilinn, is looking forward to the venture. "Many young families these days are under pressure when it comes to finding and keeping work and I have even been commuting to Galway for work on a weekly basis for some time now," he said. "But, from a cultural perspective it's very important to us that our children, who both attend Scoil an Ghleanna, grow up in West Kerry as I am native of Dingle and Noreen is a native of Annascaul."
"Noreen worked in Ceann Sibeál in the past and we saw an opportunity to offer a service to the local community here. The clubhouse is open to the public and to patrons of the golf club. Looking out the window and seeing the Blasket Islands - it is just great to have the chance to operate a business in such a beautiful place."
"We are looking forward to developing the business for patrons of the club and locals. There is a fantastic sense of community in Baile an Fheirteáraigh and hopefully people will enjoy what we have to offer," he added.
Pat and Noreen will unveil the new look Ceann Sibeál Restaurant & Bar this Saturday, offering a special menu for Mother's Day Weekend.
