Lissivigeen revives crossroads dance

RECALLING memories of entertaining afternoons at the cross at Lissivigeen more than half a century ago, a special Crossroads Dance will be held in the grounds of Lissivigeen National School on Sunday, June 2, from 2pm to 5pm.
Part of The Gathering Celebrations, it's a chance for those with memories of such dances, last staged in the late 1950s, to gather again and celebrate the music and dancing that subsequently became associated with the area. Of course, it's also open to everyone with an interest in music and dance, no matter what age they may be.
"The dances took place in the old Lissivigeen hall and they heralded a revival in Irish dancing which has been very strong ever since, particularly as we've seen Lissivigeen and Spa doing so well," Lissivigeen NS Principal and co-organiser, Michael McAuliffe, explains.
Music on the day will be by Neily O'Connor and special guests will be the award winning Spa Set Dancers and brush dancer Darren Nagle from Rathmore.
Admission is €5, children: free.
