LENAMORE artist Cathríona Moran made a lasting impression on local art lovers when her first exhibition opened in St John's, Listowel on Friday night.
Point to point race meetings she attended as a youngster in North Kerry are a particular influence that comes through in her masterful oils of horses racing across beaches.
"What I'm really trying to capture is the energy of the race and the sense of time passing. I work with oils using special agents to get the effect, I don't really work in a traditional manner," she says.
A graduate of the Limerick School of Art and Design, Cathríona's love of painting was nurtured from a very early age at Lenamore National School where, she says, "Pádraig Ó Conchubhair used to leave my paintings on the wall that bit longer to encourage me."
Indeed, one of the reasons she moved home was to send her own children to Lenamore NS. "I'm greatly impressed with the school's dedication to creating a positive learning environment for my children, through projects involving art, music and science," she says.
