KERRY teenagers were among those enjoying themselves at the Foróige Band on the Strand in Mayo - a festival that offered lots of music in a completely drug and alcohol free environment to nearly 2,000 youngsters.

The performers included Ballina band 'Flat Out', party rockers 'Now That's What I Call Live' and DJ Steven Cooper.

Foróige CEO Seán Campbell said that "Festivals like the Foróige Band on the Strand prove that great events can take place where alcohol does not play a part."

In a country where "major sporting, art or music events ... are all too often associated with alcohol" Sean said it was important that teenagers have a space where they can have fun without the need of drink or drugs.

"Activities such as these may help in some small way to change mindsets and perhaps even the Irish drinking culture," he added.
