Stanislav 'Stan' Goreansky, who hails from Russia but has been living in Tralee with his family for several years, has just opened a new salt spa in the town, the first of its kind in Kerry.

Salt spas, common and very popular in Russia and across Eastern Europe, use natural salt to create an atmosphere like that found in a salt cave using special diffusers to create clean and germ-free air.

Stan says the treatment can help with a huge range of conditions from skin problems like psoriasis, eczema and acne to respiratory illnesses including bronchitis, asthma, hay fever and even chronic snoring.

Stan, who is well known in Tralee thanks to his role in setting up and running the Kerry Greensox Baseball Club, opened the Halotherapry Ireland Salt Spa at Market Street just two months ago and already businesses is booming with customers flocking in to try the therapy.

The idea to start the business came when Stan took two of his three children home to Russia for salt spa treatments.

"I have three children. The youngest of them, who is four, was suffering from chronic tonsillitis, and my 12 year old has asthma and a bucket of allergies," he said.

"About six months ago they both had a complete course of salt therapy back in Russia. My four year old's chronic tonsillitis is gone and my other child has had great relief from their asthma for about five months," said Stan.

On returning from Russia Stan decided to set up his own salt spa which he did last November having completed a training course and getting help from the Kerry County Enterprise Board.
