There is a collective finger crossing, cloud gazing and other outward signs of apprehension among the Castleisland Races Committee as they hope for a couple of fine days in the run-up to Sunday.

It's then they will stage their annual meeting at Powell's Road on the once Powell's, then Geaney's and now Mossie Brosnan's land there.

Dry by nature, the land stood up well to the two-day meetings of the past few years in rough weather conditions.

By that logic it should be fine as the meeting this year returns to the more traditional one-day affair.

Action, from the 13 race-card gets underway at 12.30pm and the highlight of the afternoon is the Mort Reidy, Knockachur and London sponsored Mortimer Reidy R.O.L Island Derby.

Committee chairman, Charlie Farrelly is offering a great day out with all the facilities you'll find for such a day at Ballybeggan in its day or even Ballybrit.
