PRIMARY schools across Kerry will be fine tuning the vocal chords in anticipation of the first ever Kerry Primary Schools Choir Competition which will be held next February.
The exciting new competition, which was officially launched last week, saw The Kerryman on board as media sponsors, alongside Kerry County Council, Killarney Musical Society, Educate.ie, The Malton Hotel, Killarney, and other official sponsors.
Heats will take place in January and the finalists will take to the stage in The Malton on Thursday, February 27. The winners will be in with a chance of winning cash funds and the honour of being the first name engraved on the all-important perpetual trophy which will be presented by Mayor of Kerry Seamus Cosaí Fitzgerald.
At Monday's launch in The Malton it was announced that the semi-finalists will all win vocal coaching mentoring time from experienced choral coaching professionals in advance of the final. Meanwhile, the runner-up and outright winners on the night will both collect cash prizes for their schools.
The competition aims to secure the future musical education of Kerry's children, broadening their musical interests in the process. Applications and further information will be distributed this week by email to all Kerry primary schools from the Kerry Arts Officer.
