Cordal GAA Club to feature on 'Hector'
THE story of Cordal GAA Club and the men and women who contribute to its success will form part of an RTE One documentary due to hit TV screens across the county next Monday. April 7.
After a hugely successful run in Series one of 'Hector Goes' the irrepressible Navan man is back with a second series, the final episode of which sees him immerse himself in the GAA.
'Hector Goes GAA' will visit a number of clubs across the country in his quest to highlight the importance of grassroots clubs, with Cordal GAA being one of them.
PRO of the club, Nora Casey, explained that the popular TV presenter was in Cordal to film the documentary last October after hearing about the club's struggles with a very muddy pitch. Last year Cordal GAA launched a massive fundraising campaign to redevelop its pitch which was in horrendous condition due to bad drainage, and after being named All-Ireland champions of SuperValu's GAA Community Fund competition, Hector paid the club a visit.
"It was a fantastic day for the club and Hector spoke with players and officials and most of our Coiste na nOg team, which was great," Norma said. "As far as I know, the programme starts off with Hector in Croke Park and from there he traces things back to county level and then the grassroots of the local club. "
Admitting that there are a few nerves ahead of Monday night's show, Nora said it will be a a masisve boost to the club's continued fundraising drive to redevelop the pitch and construct a new training pitch for the juvenile members.
To that end, the club is organising a clothes recycling drive and are inviting people to bring along their unwanted clothes, shoes, handbags, coats, curtains etc to the local community centre or Jackie Reidy's shop in Castleisland before Easter Sunday. Anyone who donates will be entered in a draw for two Garth Brooks tickets.
'Hector Goes GAA' will be shown on RTE One on Monday night at 9.35pm. Former Kerry footballer and Aussie rules star Tadhg Kennelly will also discuss his experience of the international rules series.
