Clowning around at Chapel on the Hill
KILLORGLIN'S Chapel on the Hill venue has been unveiled as the venue for the premiere of a brand new theatrical stage show 'Clown Noir, This is Me'.
The production is designed to take audiences on a journey through the highs and lows a clown's life and career and will premiere in Killorglin in March.
'Clown Noir, This is Me', which is written and performed by Simon Thompson and directed by Dave Spathaky, is aimed at audiences of 15 years upwards. The show is based on some of the life and career experiences of Simon who worked in the late 1980s as a clown in cabaret, small circuses and festivals. In 2007 Simon established the successful Orchard Theatre Company and has worked for the last seven years promoting physical theatre as well as on educational and training initiatives with a variety of youth theatre groups.
Now living in Castletownbere, the new show sees Simon return to his mischievous roots and he is looking forward to unleashing Clown Noir in Killorglin.
"We chose Killorglin as it's a second home to us, we have family living there. My partner Eva spent lots of her childhood there and was even made Queen of Puck in 1984," Simon said.
"Our previous productions under the Orchard Theatre Company banner, were always well received. So hence when I started to write my solo show, Killorglin was the first place that came to mind," he added.
The show is a self-funded project and it is already booked to tour Ireland, England, Denmark and the USA. The premiere will be in Killorglin on Thursday and Friday, March 13 and 14 at 8pm.
