SOME of Ireland's best up and coming singer songwriters will gather in Tralee this weekend to compete in the prestigious songwriting competition that forms the cornerstone of the annual Christie Hennessy Festival.
The Christie Hennessy Song Contest is among a number of events taking place in Tralee this weekend as part of the three day festival which begins on Friday.
Festival highlights will include live music with the Tralee Troubadour Club at The Carlton on Friday night, a songwriting workshop on Saturday, a young songwriter's showcase on Sunday and a series of interactive workshops and performances by some of Tralee's best singers and musicians throughout the weekend.
The live final of the third annual IMRO Christie Hennessy Song Contest takes place on Saturday night at The Carlton Hotel when the 10 finalists, selected from over 200 entries, will perform their songs in front of a live audience and panel of expert judges.
The winning songwriter will be presented with a cheque for €1,000, courtesy of IMRO and Tralee Chamber Alliance.
Christie's daughter, Hermione, who is a renowned performer in her own right, will perform as special guest on the night of the final. She will also be joined on stage by RTÉ star Aonghus McAnally who will perform some of Christie's best known songs.
