A MASSIVE charity weekend in aid of the Ronald McDonald House at Our Lady's Hospital in Crumlin will take place in Abbeydorney over the October Bank Holiday weekend, with two days of fun activities on offer.
On Saturday, October 26, Abbeydorney Community Centre will host a cake sale from 3pm to 6pm, with spot prizes also up for grabs. And while parents are enjoying a well-earned cuppa and some cake, the children are invited to take part in Halloween disco taking place at the centre at the same time, with a prize being awarded to the best dressed boy and girl.
Later that night, it's time for the adults to get dressed up for a fancy dress Halloween party planned for McElligott's Bar, again with prizes for the best dressed on the night. The event will also feature a charity leg wax, while two local men have also volunteered to shave off their moustaches - but only if the price is right!
And for those looking for a challenge on Sunday, a charity fun run/walk will set off from the sports complex in Abbeydorney to Kilflynn, a distance of just under 5km. Participants, young and old, are being asked to assemble at the complex at 11.30am, with a bus returning to Abbeydorney after the event
For those wishing to stay in Kilflynn, Herbert's Bar will hold an auction as part of the fundriaising drive, with some superb items on offer, including an overnight in the Dingle Skellig Hotel; A four ball at Tralee Golf Club; a two hour kite surfing lesson from Freedom Kites; jewellery vouchers and much more.
Local woman Noelle Jameson is organising the event, having had first hand experience of the Ronald McDonald House which provides accommodation for up to 20 families of seriously ill children.
"I have seen first hand the exceptional work this charity does and the comfort and support it provides to families and I firmly believe that without this charity lives would be so much harder for them," she said.
