Castleisland summer festival programme launched

The line-up for the second Castleisland Summer Festival, since its revival last year, was launched at Glebe Lodge Residential Care Centre on Saturday evening.

Humphrey Murphy 5K and 10k

Events for the 2017 festival are many and varied and the programme will get under way on Friday, June 2nd. with the annual Humphrey Murphy Memorial 5 and 10k Fun Run.

Registration will be at 6:30pm on Limerick Road with both races starting at 7pm.

The entry fee for both runs will be €10 with a family fee of €20. All the proceeds from this event will go to Glebe Lodge Residential Care Centre.

Strictly Come Dancing is Back

On Saturday, June 3rd. Strictly Come Dancing will return to Castleisland Community Centre after its spectacular introduction there last summer.

Fourteen couples will vie for the titles at stake and they will take the floor at 7:30pm.

Castleisland Desmonds Ladies GAA Cub and The Autistic Unit of Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál will promote this event and benefit from it.

June 4 is Castleisland Races Day

Sunday, June 4, is Castleisland Races Day and Mossie Brosnan's field in Powell's Road will clatter and echo to the sounds of hooves from 12 noon.

Along with a full race card on the day there will be a Vintage Rally. That night there will be live music from 9pm to 11pm on Main Street with Sweet F.A. headlining. Proceeds will go to Castleisland A.F.C. and other local charities.

Cycle for St Ita's and St Joseph's

On Friday 9 at 6.30pm there will be a 40K Leisure Cycle in aid of St. Ita's and St. Joseph's National School in Tralee. The entry fee for the cycle will be €10.

Munster's Only Drive in Bingo Returns

Drive-in-Bingo returns after a couple of years absence on Sunday, June 11th. It is being flagged as 'The Return of Munster's Only Drive in Bingo' and, no doubt, it's back due to popular demand.

It will be held as before on the grounds of Castleisland Co-Op Mart and all proceeds will go to Gaelscoil Aogain

The festival organisers are grateful for the backing of the Kerry County Council Support Fund and of Castleisland Chamber Alliance.

St Ita's and St Joseph's School is located in Balloonagh, Tralee. It is both primary and post primary school that caters for the needs of children with mild, general learning difficulties.There are over 90 pupils attending the school and over 40 staff members, many of whom are from Castleisland and the surrounding area.
