ALL musical ears will be turned to Ballybunion this weekend for the inaugural Ballybunion Chanters Festival celebrating the music of historic piper Tom McCarthy.
Held at the Cliff House Hotel in the town between Friday and Sunday, it will see, among many other names, legendary English folk musician Martin Carthy - who just so happens to be a great-great-grandnephew of the legendary Ballybunion piper.
Tom McCarthy (1799 - 1904) was a regular feature of life in the town, playing his uileann pipes on the Castle Green for over 60 years and being immortalised on postcards of the era.
The weekend will see some of the greatest pipers in the land heading to Ballybunion and full details are available from the Ballybunion Chanters Festival page on Facebook.
