Ardee Concert Band bridge 20-year gap

Ardee Concert Band won the 34th South of Ireland Band Competition last Sunday for the first time in 20 years.


Forty members from the Ardee Concert Band took part in the annual competition which was held in Clonakilty in County Cork.

The band had finished runner up over the last two years.

Each band had to perform a 15 minute programme of their choice including a march.

Ardee choose to perform the march 'Death of Glory'.

In total 24 bands entered the competions with Ardee taking the top prize in the senior section.

2nd place went to Lourdes Brass Band from Drogheda with 3rd going to the Dublin Concert Band.

Ardee were conducted by Mr Liam Daly. Liam was a guest conductor for the band on this victorious occasion.

The Ardee percussion section, Niall Doherty, Paul and Annamaria O'Briene also won the best percussion for the second time running and best pepertoire selection of the day.

The adjudicator for the bands section was renowned musician Mr Alan Fernie who complimented the band on their performance saying they performed a 'Superb show from an excellent band' .

The band celebrated by doing a lap of honour around Clonakilty in their famous tourist town train back to their hotel where the party continued well into the small hours.

On their arrival home the band paraded down Ardee's main street with their bus dressed in balloons and banners.
