ENNISCORTHY GARDAÍ have been looking at YouTube after footage of hammer wielding youths was posted on the popular video website. Officers have taken an interest in a piece called 'antisocial behaviour my home Moran Park' posted by someone calling themselves Jamesy.
The seven-minute video shot from the window of a house in Moran Park shows at least three young men who have a pink football and a hurl. The ball strays into the garden of the house on several occasions and is retrieved by the youngsters.
Of concern is the fact that several members of the party also appear to be using a hammer in an Enniscorthy housing estate during daylight. The clip shows how they use the hammer to tap away at the blocks and mortar of the wall around the property.
The issue of the video arose at Monday's meeting of the Enniscorthy joint policing committee. Town clerk Padraig O'Gorman indicated that he was aware of the clip. He confirmed that the house in question is owned by Enniscorthy Town Council and that it is rented out to a tenant.
He noted that the house is on a corner.
He revealed that town engineer Mark Collins had been called in to suggest measures that might make life easier for the tenant by discouraging the loiterers. Among the steps being considered are fencing, repairing the wall and putting in a car parking area.
Garda Superintendent Liam Carolan said the matter was under investigation and that people had been visited by members of the force with a view to ensuring there is no repeat of the behaviour shown on YouTube in future.
