Wexford ladies face Raheny in cup semi-final
NEXT SATURDAY evening will see Wexford Youths Women travel to Morton Stadium in Santry to take on Raheny United in the semi-final of the FAI Senior Cup for what promises to be a very interesting cup tie.
In the three league matches played last season between the sides, there was very little between the teams as they drew twice and Raheny edged a 3-2 victory in Ferrycarrig. Raheny finished second in the league last season and are unbeaten so far this season and would be considered Peamount United's most serious challengers for the title. Ironically, both sides have reached this semi-final without kicking a ball, as they qualified for the quarter-finals courtesy of their top four finish in the league and then both received walkovers.
Raheny were given a walkover by Castlebar Celtic while Wexford were given an easy passage through by Raheny United's second string when they withdrew from the competition.
Wexford travelled to the AUL on Sunday for a friendly against the Republic of Ireland U-19 squad and came out one nil winners thanks to a goal from Ciara Rossiter which sets the Wexford girls up nicely for Sundays semi-final.
While the FAI Cup does not carry the prestige it once did, it would still be nice to get to the final and an opportunity to lift the first national women's trophy. The game on Saturday kicks off on Saturday at 7.30pm and the girls would appreciate your support on the night
