THESE TWO sides are the top two in the league and produced an Under-18 Cup final in Bunclody on Saturday last worthy of the name.
SHELBOURNE 2 FERNS UNITED 0
Despite a heavy breeze, the game was very evenly-contested with both sides creating chances and testing both 'keepers who were well up to the task, so the game reached half-time without any goals.
The breakthrough came 15 minutes into the second-half when Gina Foley broke down the right wing and sent an unstoppable shot past Tamara Furlong in the Ferns goal. Ferns battled hard to get back into the game and Gemma Kehoe went close twice, with Siobhán Grant-moorehead saving well as the game moved towards a conclusion.
Shelbourne wrapped up the cup in injury time when substitute Megan Whitty put Gina Foley in to score her second goal, and Ferns did not get time to launch any serious threat before referee John Carton sounded the final whistle.
The winners' Jodi Keane picked up a well-deserved player of the match award.
