THE WEXFORD Open boxing leagues are starting on Sunday next, October 14, at 2 p.m. in Sacre Coeur Boxing Club, Pearse Road, Enniscorthy.
Clubs taking part will be coming from Munster, Dublin and throughout Leinster, as well of course as representatives from all 12 clubs in the county.
The leagues will be run over the following weekends on Saturdays and Sundays, all starting at 2 p.m. each day.
Among those in action will be boys and girls aged eleven (in their first year of boxing) up to Senior boxers. Everyone is welcome to what hopefully will be some great afternoons of boxing, and maybe you will see the next Katie Taylor or Adam Nolan.
The Michael Andrews competition started last weekend for the Boy 4, Junior 1 and 2 categories in the National Stadium in Dublin
On Saturday Dayle Nolan (Sacre Coeur) and John Marshall (St. Michael's, New Ross) were both beaten in the quarter-finals.
The Wexford clubs had better luck on Sunday in the semi-finals when Paddy Nolan of Gorey won 74, Tommy Murphy (Sacre Coeur) won 19-5, and Tommy Stevens won 8-7.
They will now join the remaining Wexford lads in next week's finals and hopefully will continue their progress.
