THE NEWLY formed Craanford Harriers Athletics Club is hitting the ground running, with members taking part in county finals over two weekends this month.
Based at the Craanford community field, the club already has around 45 active members from 6 to 13, with several younger non competitive members also.
'There was a lot of interest in the area for an athletics club,' said Edel Byrne, Athletics Leader, and Club Secretary. 'The community facility in Craanford lent itself very well to an Athletics Club, and we train on Monday and Thursday nights on the pitch from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. in the summer, and in the hall in the winter on Monday nights from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.
The club is affiliated to Athletics Wexford, and Athletics Ireland, and they are already expecting great things from the talented young athletes.
The coaches include Catherine Walshe, Pat Redmond, Una Doyle, Fiona Ivers, and Siobhan O'Sullivan. The events include sprint, middle distance, long distance, turbo javelin, long jump, and shot putt.
'They absolutely love it,' said Edel. 'We have fun and games too.'
