Motor Club feted for organisational skills

THE 2012 Connaught Competition Engines Motorsport Ireland Hillclimb and Sprint Championship awards presentation took place recently in the Killeshin Hotel, Portlaoise.

The overall championship winners who received their awards were third-placed Joe Courtney, second-placed Simon McKinley and the 2012 champion, Sylvie Mullins.

Wexford Motor Club members to receive awards included Ian Quinn who took first place in Class 3A and was also presented with the 'On Site Event Photography' Spirit of the Championship award. Next up was Eugene French who received his award for finishing first in Class 5, while John Byrne from Carnew received an award for finishing first in Class 6. Seán Murray was presented with the newly-introduced Colin Bradley sporstman of the year award.

Wexford Motor Club itself also picked up an award. This was the Dick Bailey award which is presented annually to the organising club which, in the view of all the championship's registered competitors who each cast a vote, run the best organised and most enjoyable event in the championship throughout the year.

Philip Cullen, who was the clerk of the course for the Wexford event, was presented with and accepted the trophy on behalf of the club. This is the second time in the last three years that the club has received this award.

The 2012 Magic Bullet Breezemount Formula Libre Ireland Championship awards were also presented, and Peter Dwyer from Enniscorthy picked up his award for finishing second in the F2 class.

Andrew Haill, the co-ordinator of the Reis Get Connected MSA Asphalt Rally Championship, has confirmed to Pat O'Dowd that the Wexford Stages Rally has been included as a counting round in the series for 2013.

Wexford Motor Club are delighted to welcome the championship back to Wexford once again and look forward to working with all concerned in the coming months.

The club's Annual General Meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, November 13, at 9 p.m. in the Riverbank House Hotel, Wexford. All current paid-up members for the year 2012 are requested to attend.
