Cogleys claim the honours in second blitz competition of the season
WEXFORD BADMINTON hosted the second blitz competition of the season recently.
In the Under-15 and Under-17 categories, Ryan Cogley from Taghmon took the boys' singles title in Group 1. Robert Cogley from Taghmon won Group 2, and Dean Lancaster from Gorey won Group 3. Aime Butler from Gorey won the girls' singles title.
Robert Cogley and James McKenzie from Taghmon won Group 1 of the boys' doubles, while Brian Creane from Terrerath and Dylan Hobman from Shelburne teamed up to win Group 2 of the boys' doubles. In the mixed doubles the Gorey pair of Eoghan Kennedy and Aime Butler narrowly won the title from Taghmon partnership Brandon Cogley and Clodagh Dempsey.
In the Under-13 age category, in the boys' singles event, James McKenzie from Taghmon won Group 1, narrowly defeating doubles partner and clubmate Robert Cogley in the final. Adam Bookle from Terrerath won Group 2, Aodan Whitty from Monaseed won Group 3, Evan Carr from Clonard won Group 4 and T.J. Cousins, also from Clonard, won Group 5.
In the girls' singles, Aime Butler from Gorey won Group 1. Emma Warren, also from Gorey, narrowly won Group 2, ahead of Amy Hyland from Monaseed. Boys' singles finalists James McKenzie and Robert Cogley from Taghmon teamed up in the doubles to win Group 1 ahead of Evan Byrne and Seán Bass from Gorey.
Evan Carr and T.J. Cousins from Clonard won Group 2. Aime Butler from Gorey and Katie Smyth from Monaseed won the girls' doubles title. Aime Butler, playing with Evan Byrne, also won Group 1 of the mixed doubles. Adam Bookle and Ella Foley from Terrerath won a very close-fought Group 2 of the mixed doubles.
In the Under-11 age category, Seán Bass from Gorey won Group 1 of the boys' singles by one point from Aodán Whitty from Monaseed. Kevin Hyland from Monaseed won Group 2 of the boys' singles, Evan O'Hanlon from Taghmon won Group 3, and James O'Hanlon from Taghmon won Group 4.
Leonie Ward from Gorey won Group 1 of the girls' singles, with Ella Foley from Terrerath winning Group 2 and Lisa Marie Whitty from Taghmon winning Group 3. In the boys' doubles event, the Gorey partnership of Shane Flood and Seán Bass won Group 1. Monaseed players Pádraig Tobin and Ted Kenny won Group 2, and their clubmates from Monaseed, Brendan Green and Joe Conroy, won Group 3.
In the girls' doubles, Aine Crowe and Leonie Ward took the title with Aine Tobin and Sarah Doyle from Monaseed taking second place. Aine Crowe also won Group 1 of the mixed doubles playing with Shane Flood.
Paddy Nolan and Edel Ryan from Taghmon won Group 2 of the mixed doubles, and Brendan Greene and Sarah Doyle from Monaseed won Group 3.
Congratulations to Wexford players Aime Butler from Gorey, and Clodagh Dunne, James McKenzie and Robert Cogley, all from Taghmon, who have been selected on the Leinster Under-13 team which will travel to Scotland in February to play in the annual Celtic Challenge event.
