A CONVOY of 56 old tractors, 18 vintage cars, a well travelled Bedford truck and a century old steam engine added up to at least €2,500 for the Alzheimer Society in County Wexford. The vintage run organised by John Foley and his committee proved an enjoyable and outstanding success for all concerned.
The parade through Bunclody was led by a massive steam engine piloted by Paddy Denby from Ferns, who then parked up to let his more nimble friends take off along the open road. Among the vehicles who trailed along a circuit through the Half Way House, Kiltealy, Ballindaggin and Ballycarney was John Foley on board his 1964 Massey 35X.
The man from Killanure was also behind a very successful barbecue at the Half Way during the summer, bringing the total taking for the cause up to the €5,500 mark. He revealed that he is under pressure to make both events annual occasions.
He thanked everyone who turned out or assisted in making sure than everything went smoothly and enjoyably. Food was served in River's Edge after the vintage run.
