Gorey Market House Festival is on a mission to find Ireland's best pot of jam. With Wexford's reputation for fruit growing, the best jam is likely to be found locally, so the search has begun.

The 'Jam and Jamming' event is a taster for the Market House Festival which is on over the August bank holiday. It includes a jam competition, tasting, and a jam and preserves demonstration.

The competition has a prize fund of €600. The categories are: strawberry; raspberry; mixed fruit; and exotic. Prizes include €60 for first; €40 for second; a jam making kit for third; and €100 for the best overall pot. There are also prizes for the best man-made pot of jam, and the best label.

All jam must be homemade. Jam should be sealed with a lid or cellophane and waxed disc, and labelled with the category. The entrant's name should not be on the label. Enter as often as you wish. Judging is based on presentation, taste, colour and texture. Ingredients must be listed. Entries will be taken on Saturday, July 15, at Gorey Civic Centre from 10 a.m. to 12 midday. Winners will be announced at a jam making demonstration in Gorey Library on Tuesday, July 25. Returns will be facilitated on Wednesday, July 26, from 3.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Cost of entry is €2 or €5 for three entries.
