The members of Gorey Choral Group are still on a high after they recently won first place in the Arklow Music Festival. The choir got top marks in the light jazz and popular music competition, and took home the Seán Bonner perpetual trophy for the seventh time.

The choir also competed in the Cork International Choral Festival over the May bank holiday weekend and was placed fourth in a line up of 13 choirs.

Chairperson Tina Smith said that the choir, which is 40 years in existence this year, is going from strength to strength. She praised the hard work of musical director Eithne Corrigan, who works tirelessly on behalf of the group; competition pianist Yvonne Collier; and the choir members themselves for all their hard work and dedication.

The choir's final engagement before finishing for the summer season was the recent Festival of Choirs in Gorey. They resume in September and for more, email goreychoralgroup@gmail.com.
