The production of the musical inspired by the output of rock/pop legend Elvis unearthed a worthy successor to Elvis in the hip swivelling form of Cormac Byrne.

And he had very worthy sidekicks in Lizzie Breen and Fiach Byrne as he played the part of a stranger who arrives on his motor bike to liven up the sleepy town of Natalie.

The show produced by teacher Tomás Earls and musical director Dale Hennessy was assembled in the six hectic weeks at the start of the Christmas term.

They certainly had some fine talent to work with in the likes of John Donohoe, Rian English Adams, Jessica Jacob, Alison Sinnott, Dylan Gladney and the golden voiced Chloe Moulds.

They managed to hide the light of William Deacon under a bushel until the end, when he finally erupted into the front line with dramatic telling effect.

MC John O'Neill informed the audience that 52 students had been recruited to the production, handing choreographer Damian Breen a mammoth challenge.

Damian and his charges rose to the task magnificently, filling the stage with high rev action whenever the chorus burst into life - which was often.

The plot of 'All Shook Up', based very loosely on Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night', may be flimsier than a tissue in a thunderstorm but the Bunclody gang certainly made the most of the material.

And there was plenty of humour in the mix, not least as the statues came to life in the museum garden to provide one of many lasting memories from a tremendous piece of musical theatre.

The FCJ has a tradition of mounting a musical every two years and the 2013 offering suggested that the tradition is in very safe hands.
