12 nights in Paradiso
Early bird tickets are on sale today for a Cry Before Dawn concert on the opening night of this year's Wexford Spiegeltent Festival.
The Wexford band have been given the honour of opening the festival which will run in an ornate 1920's tent on the quayfront from October 23 to November 3.
The organisers have secured a bigger spiegeltent from Holland this time round with capacity for audiences of 450 seated and 700 standing.
Despite the bigger size, the Paradiso tent will offer the same old-fashioned glamour that people enjoyed last year.
A line-up of well-known national and international acts is being assembled for the festival which runs during Wexford Opera.
Details of these will be announced later, according to promoter Barry Ennis as he unveiled a list of confirmed Wexford acts this week.
A Wexford Artists in the Round show on the style of the Jools Holland music programme on television will be held on Tuesday, October 29.
It will feature Satori Stream, Corner Boy, Dan Comerford and Gordon Barry, among other acts.
This event was a sold-out highlight of the festival last year.
Bridge Drama will present a matinee and evening show on Sunday, October 27 and Wexford/New York musician Pierce Turner will give a special performance on a date to be announced. In a special festival promotion, a limited number of early tickets for the Cry Before Dawn concert after the opening night fireworks display, are going on sale in Whites for Music in South Main Street from 10 a.m. today, July 23.
Complementing the early 20th century spiegeltent will be a vintage carnival featuring an ornate carousel, a ferris wheel, chair-o-planes and other nostalgic attractions.
A spiegel fringe programme will see a range of free comedy, music and theatre performances taking place in pubs and restaurants around the town, at lunch-time and early evening, as well as spontaneous street acts in different outdoor locations. DoneDeal, the online advertising company is once again the title sponsor of the Wexford Spiegeltent Festival which was held for the first time last year.
